Edit text with your touchscreen

If your Chromebook has a touchscreen turned on, you can use your fingers to edit text.

Actions you can take

  • Move the cursor: Tap the cursor and drag it to where you want it on the text.
  • Open action menu: To open the action menu that gives you the option to “Select,” “Select all,” and “Paste,” double tap the word to show the action menu.
  • To select one word: On an editable document, double tap the word you want to select.
  • Select multiple words: On an editable document, double tap the first word and then drag the cursor across the text until all desired words are selected.

Tips:

  • To focus on the text, move the cursor or drag your finger across it, and the magnifier opens.
  • To select a word, swipe your finger across it. To deselect a character, swipe in the opposite direction.
  • To open the action menu, you can also press and hold the word aside from double tapping.
  • In addition to double tap, you can also press and hold a word instead of double tapping. Both methods would work.
  • Due to Google Docs’ customized user experience, these tap editing interactions don’t work on Docs.
